Where we have particular Expertise..
DC Power Systems
A topical subject in the Data Centre world and one that we have had considerable experience of building and operating in Next Generation Telecomms applications, not too different from a typical DC hardware profile.
DC Power Engineering is a very different world from its AC counterpart but one that can be made to work to its strengths if it is designed and operated correctly.
We have experience of applying these skills to Legacy Telco and Next Generation Mobile Telco hardware aswell as many of the IT/Data Services that provide the networks for Mobile Data Services and applications.
We have also been involved in comparative reliability and risk assessments between UPS and DC Power systems and looked at some of the less know higher voltage DC Systems that have been successful in Data Centres around the world.
Condition and Performance Evaluation Surveys
Particularly in Critical Environments meaningful evaluation is essential to understand system capability and consequently your business capability and exposure to failure.
This is often the starting point of improvement projects and its also the best way to maintain a LIVE picture of your business’s infrastructure at whatever point in its life cycle. Until you know the condition AND capability of your systems any management of them is arbitrary without quantifying the current capability and risk of failure.
Often condition alone is the focus of evaluations leading to uninformed investment in change.
We believe that to arrive at the the most effective solution, condition needs to be linked to risk of failure and performance as well as the economics of retaining in service. Without this level of assessment and evaluation inappropriate change can often be implemented and financed, only to be ineffective at mitigating the issues and resulting in further investment later on.
Understanding the risks created by system design, installation or specific operational regimes means the most important risks are identified, the investment is appropriately focused and the necessary change to mitigate those risks is implemented.
Programme Management
We have successfully managed entire portfolios of projects across the UK for two of the largest global Telecommunications companies in the world as well as roll-out programmes for several high street retail brands.
Good planning tools, efficient processes and organisation with flexible resources are the most important parts of a successful Programme.
Success requires the ability to manage and report on an evolving picture that impacts on:
Individual project business cases aswell as the annual budget,
the delivery of a capability into a business on time,
the impact on the property OPEX budget,
Local and global Carbon targets,
a continuously changing business requirement,
varying supplier capabilities,
Management and technical resources
QA procedures to control design and construction, contract administration and legal teams, local and global Procurement practices
Reliability Studies/Design Validation
We have assessed existing installations and new designs to identify the most important components in the risk picture.
We have used this information to devise maintenance plans and Capital Replacement plans to ensure you are investment is focused on the parts of the infrastructure that expose you to the greatest risk.
One of the interesting features of this analysis is the ability to demonstrate how time and varying maintenance regimes can change what exposer to the biggest risks and giving you an evolving likelihood of failure at each site.
Sustainable Engineering
We have advised on a strategy for implementing carbon reduction programmes across a national technical estate by applying established economic principles.
Many opportunities to improve energy efficiency persist within existing M&E Infrastructure system designs. We can show how to apply these low investment changes and apply some efficiency initiatives to existing system designs and control philosophy.
